K-One In Pact With Livescribe To Produce Smartpens

Wednesday April 15, 2009 - K-One Technology Bhd today sealed a partnership agreement with US-based Livescribe Inc to develop and manufacture a smartpen product line.

K-One will manufacture 100,000 smartpens under the initial production for marketing worldwide, said Livescribe's founder and chief executive officer Jim Marggraff at the signing ceremony held here.

The Livescribe smartpen captures handwriting and simultaneously records audio and synchronises it to the writing.

The product has already been available in the market for more than half a year, retailing locally at RM599 for the one-gigabyte memory version and RM699 for the two-gigabyte memory version.

The smartpen is well received in the United States and has seen increased acceptance in other markets like Asean, including Malaysia, Oceania and the Middle East, according to Livescribe.

The signing between K-One and Livescribe was witnessed by Multimedia Development Corporation's chief executive officer Datuk Badlisham Ghazali.

K-One group chairman Edwin Lim Beng Fook said the partnership marked the company's expertise and capability to innovate and manufacture cutting-edge products.

The deal, he said, is also expected to contribute to the company's revenue growth this year.
