Organizations today face a unique challenge – how to simplify their daily business processes in order to increase customer satisfaction, staff productivity, and ultimately, their bottom line?
With IT adoption rate rising in the Asia market, many organizations are seeking to transform their businesses to a more efficient digital world. Some preach a ‘paperless’ utopia, but the reality is more of a ‘paper-less’ environment. Today, business documentations are required to fit existing legal and legislative requirements, for example, the need to capture customer signature on physical paper. How then does an organization efficiently bridge the digital divide between the physical world and the digital world? It is obvious that new processes need to be put in place to accommodate the linking of these two worlds. One area where most organizations are focusing on is the process of capturing data. If done well, the new process can improve an organization’s data capturing workflow process significantly.
| | A conventional data capturing work flow starts with a physical piece of data probably in the form of pen and paper.
This is then followed by a manual process of keying the data into a digital device like a computer or notebook for instance. In some cases, it can also be scanned and OCRed. The entire data capturing process might take several days since this step is highly dependent on the availability of resources.
Once the data is captured into a digital device, the data is physically archived and the digital copy will be stored into a backend server either for further processing or safe keeping. |
